Meet Designer Maker Julie Trickey

Julie Trickey is a dress designer and dressmaker whose business Overly Gorgeous focuses on clothing for the larger lady. The shop is based in Sidmouth, East Devon and recently celebrated its 2nd birthday.

Owner and dress maker Julie Trickey offers a wealth of experience including; over 20 years experience in making clothes for herself, family and friends, a City and Guilds in Dressmaking and a level 1 in Machine Embroidery. Keen to continually develop her skills and her business Julie attends courses to enhance her skills, which have included; general dressmaking, bodice making and machine embroidery.

The level of skill and experience offered makes Overly Gorgeous makes its products unique to the average high street shop and offers expertise to ladies who sometimes struggle with knowing what to wear. Customer are not expected to trawl though masses of clothes and hope what’s on the hanger fits them, instead they are able to arrange personal appointments so that outfits are bespoke or altered to fit.

Julie makes each item of clothing with the customers needs in mind, she makes outfits for day to day as well as special occasions and has become well renowned for her beautiful ‘Mother of the Bride’ outfits.

The business has grown and Julie now employs a part time member of staff who helps with the making and a textiles student who join her during university breaks so that her skills can continue to grow.  Julie’s outfits are made with care for each individual so that they are able to feel ‘overly gorgeous’.
