REFLECTING ON OUR IMPACT

POLICY CHANGE

Our team works tirelessly to advocate for tougher legislation, legally binding agreements and policy transformation to hold the fashion industry accountable. For example, our work campaigning for a renewed International Accord on health and safety was successful in encouraging brands to keep their garment workers safe in Bangladesh and beyond. We have also been a crucial part of the development of the EU strategy for sustainable textiles, and our new European’s Citizens Initiative on due diligence for living wages in the fashion supply chain is coming soon.

INDUSTRY CHANGE

The Fashion Transparency Index has once more incentivised the world’s biggest and most influential fashion brands and retailers towards greater transparency, which we believe is fundamental to building a better fashion system. We have also championed the next generation of sustainable fashion designers through our showcasing and mentoring initiative Fashion Open Studio, putting dozens of game-changing international creatives in front of top fashion industry audiences. This year, we also launched Small But Perfect, our development programme for SMEs in Europe to accelerate circular fashion solutions.

CULTURAL CHANGE

Throughout the year, we create interactive resources, practical guides and innovative events to mobilise citizens to think differently about how we buy, care for and dispose of our clothes. Over 700,000 Fashion Revolutionaries follow and engage with our digital content, and during Fashion Revolution week alone, we reached 569 million people on social media and nearly 5 billion through the press. We’ve also had over 32,000 people take part in our free online course, Fashion and the Sustainable Development Goals, equipping them with the tools to take action on fashion’s impact.

HOW WE CAMPAIGN FOR SYSTEMIC CHANGE

Fashion Revolution is the world’s largest fashion activism movement, campaigning for a fashion industry that values people and the planet over profit and growth. We are a truly people-powered movement, working together in communities around the world to create positive and lasting change.

The issues in the fashion industry never fall on any single person, brand, or company. We focus on using our collective voices to transform the entire system. We do this through: research, education, collaboration, mobilisation and advocacy.

With significant structural change, the fashion industry can lift millions of people out of poverty and provide them with decent and dignified livelihoods. It can conserve and restore our living planet. It can bring people together and be a great source of joy, creativity and expression for individuals and communities.

A GLOBAL NETWORK OF FASHION REVOLUTIONARIES

Fashion Revolution is a truly people-powered movement working together in communities around the world to create positive and lasting change. Fashion Revolution is a registered non-profit organisation in the United Kingdom, with another 14 registered country offices and voluntary teams dedicating their time and skills in a further 78 countries.

FASHION REVOLUTION WEEK

Fashion Revolution Week is the time of year when all of our voices come together to campaign for change. For 2021, our theme was Rights, Relationships & Revolution.

Human rights and the rights of nature are interconnected and interdependent; we are part of the wider living world and our right to a healthy environment depends on the health of our planet. The human exploitation and ecosystem degradation we see all around us today are the product of centuries of colonialism and globalised exploitation.

We cannot continue to extract dwindling resources from an already stressed natural world, pollute our land and our oceans, fall far short of climate change targets and dump our waste on the shoulders of countries we have culturally depleted.  Nor can we continue to allow big business to profit whilst supply chain workers struggle to live in dignity.

At Fashion Revolution, we believe we need a radical shift in our relationships – our relationships with each other, with our clothes, within fashion supply chains and with the natural world. We need this revolution for our own prosperity and wellbeing, and for the health of our earth and our oceans.

This Fashion Revolution Week, we brought people together from across our community, amplifying unheard and marginalised voices, and working together to explore interconnected solutions.
