Knowing Cotton Otherwise

Fashion for Good Museum
Rokin, 1021 JS Amsterdam, Netherlands

The Fashion for Good Museum tells the stories behind the clothes you wear and how your choices can have a positive impact. Fashion for Good believes that the industry can and must change, and strives to help raise awareness and share knowledge. A must-visit for anyone interested in fashion, sustainability or innovation.

Cotton is perhaps the world’s most well-known fabric, however, many stories behind cotton are less known. These untold and sometimes unexpected perspectives have been collected and brought together in the exhibition, Knowing Cotton Otherwise. The next chapter of the exhibition, titled ‘Bodies of Work’, shows a broader perspective that explores cotton’s burdened history as well as its use and re-use in fashion and tech.

Create a bodywarmer yourself:
* For the one who makes your clothes, like a warm embrace
* For the planet, turn down the heating and wrap yourself
* By reusing existing material or even one that is fully circular

The bodywarmer made by you, as a symbol against exploitation of garment workers and for sustainable handling of clothes and textiles.
Feel free to fill in this challenge (it’s not a competition) however you like, it is not so important whether it is a wearable piece.
Use a medium you like, or use (textile) or other material that is already there, anything goes, you choose.

Marrickville Town Hall
303 Marrickville Rd Marrickville NSW 2204

The Slow Fashion Market is a sustainable and ethical fashion market for new clothing. It is an event for people who care about how their fashion is made and who made it.
The one day event will take place indoors on Saturday 3 June at the Marrickville Town Hall with 40+ independent Australian brands.

The stallholders are those that produce fashion and accessories (mostly women’s, with some men’s and children’s) with an emphasis on quality and durability, and who use materials that are sustainable and non-toxic, and who either make the fashion themselves or pay their workers fair wages.

Speciality coffee and sweet treats will also be available!
