We want to bring fashion enthusiasts from Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia and others, at Anbessa Restaurant & Cafe. Jabana has and continues to be the beverage that brings people together, it is where collective sharing happens, communities connect and traditions stay alive. By combining Jabana with conversations and activities on Fashion for the Horn of Africa communities in Cairo, we are building the bridges between these creatives, giving them a space and fostering opportunities for them to work together and highlight their creations.
Event Activities:
- Show & Tell: All participants are encouraged to bring their fashion creations, be it clothes or accessories, to talk about their process and to introduce their projects and brands to everyone present. Doing this while sharing cups of Jabana, the participants will platform their work and network with potential partners, peers and customers, in a relaxed and encouraging space.
- Fabric Stories: All the participants will be given a piece of scrap fabric at random, and they will be supplied with the tools and other smaller scraps to create a short story out of textile. They will each get the opportunity to share with the group and then everyone can come together to create a collage, where we will combine the fabric pieces into one large piece. This collective fashion art activity will show the participants that anything, even waste, can be used as a tool for self expression, limitless creativity and can result in a bigger story.
