We love fashion. But we don’t want our clothes to exploit people or destroy our planet. We are coming together as a global community to bring our manifesto into reality.

Fashion Revolution Week is our annual campaign bringing together the world’s largest fashion activism movement for seven days of action.

Fashion Revolution Week 2023 marks 10 years since the Rana Plaza tragedy. Using the 10 points of our manifesto as building blocks, our Global Network of Fashion Revolutionaries in 75 countries are bringing people together to build a vision for radical change.

The theme for this year’s Fashion Revolution Week is MANIFESTO FOR A FASHION REVOLUTION.

We love fashion. But we don’t want our clothes to exploit people or destroy our planet. We are coming together as a global community to bring our manifesto into reality.

Back in 2018, we created a 10-point manifesto that solidifies our vision to a global fashion industry that conserves and restores the environment and values people over growth and profit. Since then, over 14,000 people around the world have signed their name in support of turning these demands into a reality.

As we approach a decade of campaigning for systemic change in the fashion industry, we are bringing together our global community to be curious, find out and do something around each manifesto point. From supply chain transparency to living wages, textile waste to cultural appropriation, freedom of association to biodiversity, we are sharing the solutions to fashion’s most pressing social and environmental problems. And we need you to join us.

Over the past ten years, the noise around sustainable fashion has only got louder. But meanwhile, real progress is too slow in the context of the climate crisis and rising social injustice. That’s why we’re making Fashion Revolution Week 2023 an action-packed and future-focused campaign that amplifies solutions from historically overlooked places. In our process, we are led by the plurality and diversity of our global Network, passing the mic to Fashion Revolutionaries from around the world

We believe that while fashion has a colossal negative impact, it also has the power and the potential to be a force for change. Join us to expand the horizons of what fashion could – and should – be.

24th April marks 10 years since Rana Plaza. On 24 April 2013, the Rana Plaza factory building in Bangladesh collapsed in a preventable accident. More than 1,100 people died and another 2,500 were injured, making it the fourth largest industrial disaster in history. During Fashion Revolution Week, we are #RememberingRanaPlaza and the lives lost, and demand that no one dies for fashion. As we reflect, we are both inspired by the progress made in the Bangladesh Ready-made Garment (RMG) sector and reminded of the changes still needed throughout the entire global fashion industry.

Rana Plaza was not the first or last garment factory disaster and was symptomatic of wider pressures felt by producer countries worldwide. Rana Plaza further exposed the widespread lack of transparency across global fashion supply chains, and how a lack of visibility can ultimately cost lives. Without transparency, issues remain hidden and unresolved at their root.

It is not by coincidence, but by design, that within the global fashion industry, garment worker wages are artificially low and that brands continue to source from regions where it is impossible, difficult and/or unsafe for workers to form trade unions and bargain for greater rights. The global fashion industry has persistently relied on voluntary commitments which have long preserved the status quo. A lack of living wages, freedom of association, collective bargaining, health and safety and traceability continue due to poor progress on transparency in these areas. A critical first step toward accountability, therefore, is greater transparency.

The International Accord and the improvements made in the RMG industry in Bangladesh serve as an example of why binding obligations, enforceability and the indisputable inclusion of workers’ voices in decision making are necessary to foster positive change toward a fair fashion industry. We pay tribute to the joint efforts of all Accord stakeholders who have significantly contributed to safer workplaces for over 2 million garment factory workers in Bangladesh, especially the global trade unions representing garment workers who were at the forefront of this ground-breaking agreement.
