April 20 @ 12:00 pm $95
This fun and beautiful workshop will introduce participants to the colorful world of natural dye plants, many of which are dual purpose edibles and have herbal/medicinal properties. We will be focusing on the water-wise, mess-free technique of bundle dyeing- using organically grown dyestuffs cultivated by the Dogwood Dyer as well as responsibly sourced dyestuffs from around the world.
Participants will engage in environmentally sound practices and techniques working with natural sources for color. Natural dye basics such as pre-fixing using soy milk and natural metal salts, extraction of color, and historical context will also be covered. You’ll be amazed at the colors attainable with flowers! This technique is perfectly suited for upcycling old garments to breath new wearable life back into stained or tired textiles. Each participant will leave with a diverse array of naturally dyed textiles, resources lists and instructional guide on how to repeat the process at home. No previous dyeing experience necessary and all ages are welcome.
