Let Us Not Die From Habit – photography exhibition by Shan Purdy.
April 22 @ 4:00 pm - April 26 @ 5:00 pm Free
In today’s fast fashion environment, the emphasis is always placed on the never-ending quest for ‘the new’. This exhibition aims to show ways in which we can all easily extend the life-cycle of any garment using customisation. In a series of portraits, photographer Shan Purdy takes one simple outfit (jeans and a white shirt) and then passes this same outfit from subject to subject over the course of a number of weeks, with each individual being given 7 days to adapt/customise/paint/embroider as they see fit.
With each new person’s customisation, the garment changes dramatically – illustrating how with charisma, creativity and freedom we have the power to turn an everyday garment into something totally unique. The process turns a seemingly ordinary outfit into an expression of personality, aesthetic and ultimately, a form of communication.
Opening evening will take place on 22 April 2019 from 4pm – 6pm. Drinks will be served through-out.
