Fashion Revolution is a global movement working to unite artists, designers and organisations to work towards radically changing the way our clothes are sourced, produced, consumed, so that our clothing is made in a safe, clean and fair way.The movement believes that collaborating across the whole value chain – from weavers to consumer is the only way to transform the industry.
Fashion Revolution began when the Rana Plaza Factory collapsed in Bangladesh six years ago. It was a result of the sweatshops run by fashion labels from developed countries paying grossly low wages to the labour and making them work in ecologically harmful conditions. The incident took 1138 lives and injured many more. These were the people who actually bore the brunt of the true cost of fast fashion behavior practiced by today’s consumers and businesses.
Our mission with the Shaping Fashion event is to bring multiple stakeholder groups together and engage locally with the community and audiences in hand. We will highlight the problems and challenges of the fashion/textile industry and help spread the message that pleasant, presentable and stirs debate about the ways forward.
