Autumn Fashion Revolution Clothes Swap
April 20 @ 1:45 pm - 4:00 pm £20
Marie Kondo has set the stage for our next clothes swap by helping us rid our wardrobes of pieces that no longer spark joy. What’s great is that what no longer sparks joy in one woman, sparks fresh joy in another! On that note, it’s now time to SWAP!!! There will be wine, drinks, finger foods and music at this exciting swaré!
Besides nailing some gorgeous preloved pieces to invigorate your wardrobe, clothes swaps are a fundamental way to curate a sustainable wardrobe. In 2017, ABC TV‘s War On Waste
reported that we throw out 6000 kilos of fashion textile waste to landfill every 10 minutes! Since 2015, Clothes Swap & Style
has provided a solution to textile waste reduction by creating a new culture of fashion waste reduction through clothes swapping.
This clothes swap will commemorate and lead into Fashion Revolution
week (April 22nd – 28th). It’s is an annual global campaign (#WhoMadeMyClothes
) which falls on the anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse, which killed 1138 people and injured 2500 on 24th April 2013. It was the fourth largest industrial disaster in history. The campaign aims to change the fashion industry towards dignity, fair wages for garment workers and also conservation and restoration of the environment. This is done through events that educate and demonstrate alternatives to fast fashion such as clothes swaps.
* Arrive at 1:45 pm for a 2 pm start.
1. Please bring STRICTLY ONLY 1 – 4 items of clothing or accessories to add to the swap collection pool. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accept more than 4.
2. Please note that guests can only begin taking and trying on swap items after the swap is officially declared open by the host. This will take place after the brief welcome and introduction at the beginning.
3. At the end of the swap, participants can choose to take home remaining items they brought that have not been taken or they can leave them at the swap to be donated to charity.
Clothes brought to the swap MUST be clean, good quality and in good condition: not too heavily worn out, faded or too damaged. (Good quality also means something you would gift to your best friend). It’s respectful to other guests.
As much as possible, we’d love for guests to bring pieces from decent mall/online brands, vintage, quality fabric, handmade, retro, etc.
Value of items: Due to the demand for quality clothes by previous swap participants, we will prefer good quality pieces. Please do not bring clothes from fast fashion labels such as Big W and Kmart.
We cannot guarantee guests will find their sizes. It depends on other guests that attend and what they bring, therefore we encourage ALL sizes to participate in the swap.
Items to bring: dresses, pants, skirts, tops, shoes, bags, scarves, hats, jewellery.
What NOT to bring: swimwear, underwear, pyjamas, nightwear.
